Marketing isn't getting reach. It's tidying your house before the party.

Most people think marketing is about getting reach. Getting rich. Getting a million views. It's actually about tidying your house before you invite anyone in.

Let me explain with a party. Imagine you're throwing one, and you want the kind of night people remember. What's the first thing you do? Most people say "invite as many people as possible." It isn't.

If your house is a mess, dishes unwashed, dirty laundry on the floor, it doesn't matter how many people you invite. They walk in, they see the state of it, and that becomes what they remember about you.

So the very first thing you do is tidy up. Make it premium. Get the PA in, find the DJ, sort the lighting. Then you invite people, and every one of them has a good time, feels looked after, and wants to come back.

Your business works exactly the same way

Everyone asks the same question: "How do I get more reach? How do I get a million views?" I want to challenge you with a different one. Are you ready for a million?

If a million people landed on your website today, what would actually happen?

  • Can they see what you offer, clearly?
  • Can they see the price?
  • Can they find the right product for them?
  • Can they actually buy, easily?

If the answer is no, all that reach is wasted. Reach without conversion doesn't work. You've invited a million people to a messy house.

Sales is giving people what they actually need

Successful selling isn't tricking someone into buying something they don't need. That just causes regret, and regret is terrible for your brand. We can't read minds, so our only job is to give people authentic, accurate, relevant information and let them decide well.

That's what a tidy house is, in business terms: clear, honest, well-organised information. A full website, a brochure, even just an Instagram page. The format doesn't matter. What matters is that it's accurate and relevant to the person looking. Get that right, and then every pound you spend on reach is worth it.

The takeaway

Stop obsessing over the size of the guest list. Reach without readiness is just a crowd watching you fail. Tidy the house first, then turn up the volume.

Build something you actually own.
